YouTube Gains Country-Specific Sites, New Partnerships

YouTube, until now a single site
serving a worldwide audience, now has gained country-specific versions for
Brazil,
France
, Ireland,
Italy, Japan,
The Netherlands,
Poland,
Spain
and the United Kingdom.

For the initial launch, the sites have been translated into each country’s
language and have gained localized home pages. Over time, YouTube-owner Google
promises to make the editions more county-specific by adding localized rankings,
comments, special video content and other sections. An official blog post is now up here with more details.

As part of the launch, YouTube highlighted preexisting partnerships with
content owners in several of these countries, ranging from BBC channels
announced earlier this year (BBC,
BBC Worldwide &
BBC World News) to
France 24.
